Gann Book 8th Update

August 8, 2018

“Many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than the one where they sprang up” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

Remember this as you read through this month's Gann 8th update….
__________________________________________________________

The most recent “Gann Book 8th Update” went out on July 10th (there was an interim on July 31st). Back on May 8th was when I signed with Wiley to publish a 2nd edition of my book The Trading Methodologies of W.D. Gann: A Guide To Building Your Technical Analysis Toolbox!

COVER DESIGN

No matter what I put into this book that I'm writing and revising, it will first be judged by…it's cover!

My editor at my new publishing company (Wiley) made a point that we need to keep the title and the overall cover design for the 2nd edition book closely related to that of the 1st edition. I resisted at first, looking for a fresh new look, but then quickly understood the value of design consistency upon researching the matter. So, we decided to finalize design this summer before I hand in the manuscript (shooting for year end).

My editor presented me with two final cover design options based on conversations back and forth. He leaned toward one, while I leaned toward the other. So I decided to put the final decision out to the world (that's you!), and you all came through! Though the margin was only 15%, the “blue” design won and will be the cover of my new book! Thank you for taking the time to provide your vote.

COLLABORATIONS

My first edition of the book (started writing in 2010, published in 2012) was almost completely a “solo” project. I had industry friends and colleagues review my work during the writing process, and when I had a final manuscript draft in hand, but I didn't really collaborate much in any formal manner. So, for the 2nd edition, I plan on changing that, tying back to the quote at the start of this update.

“Many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than the one where they sprang up” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

While the strong majority of the 2nd edition book will be updated/revised content from the 1st edition, there for sure will be brand new content. And for the bulk of this new content, I am working with companies, experts, and mentors that I've established relationships with over the years.

I personally know the family that runs W.D. Gann, Inc. The current owner, Cody Jones, is the son of the late Nikki Jones (she wrote the foreword to my 1st edition book). Cody knows about my 2nd edition project and has offered to open up the vault (literally, the physical vault that holds many priceless irreplaceable Gann works) to me for my research. This is amazing, and I plan on taking him up on it. First I need to mull more over what concepts to explore in the book from the overwhelming mountain of knowledge the original Gann collection holds.

I've brought your attention to this Vedic Astrology resource before. Well, now I've formally reached out to Jyotish practitioner Madhavi Rathod. For my book, we are collaborating on financial astrology as it ties in with Gann's work for major markets. The final say on how this material gets incorporated into my 2nd edition book will depend upon two major factors:
How soundly we can explain the concepts and techniques to any type of trader (beginner vs. intermediate vs.advanced)
Whatever my editor has to say about it…financial astrology can be touchy 😉
I hope you're all having a lovely August – catch you again on (or around) September 8th!

“The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score.” —Bill Copeland

Remember this as you read through this month's Gann 8th update….

The most recent “Gann Book 8th Update” went out on June 8th. Back on May 8th was when I signed with Wiley to publish a 2nd edition of my book The Trading Methodologies of W.D. Gann: A Guide To Building Your Technical Analysis Toolbox!

I conducted a survey and accepted your feedback as I began work on the manuscript. I carved out time in late May and early June to accomplish this and made progress. Then everything got pushed to the back burner. It's life, it happens, but it doesn't change the fact that I want to and NEED to get this second edition book written and out into the world!

So on mulling over this around the July 4th holiday, I realized something. Ever since early 2017, I started actively setting goals for myself each calendar quarter. The result was that projects felt much less overwhelming and I was also able to get so much more done in the allotted time than I had anticipated. During the first two quarters of 2017 I didn't quite hit my goals, but as I learned to lay them out better, I started hitting them. And even exceeding them.

Therefore it is time to bring this approach to the writing of this book. It is quite challenging to take “complete a second edition manuscript” and break it down into defined pieces that can be tackled. But I did it!

Today, I shared those goal specifics with my assistant editor, who manages the day-to-day questions I have regarding this book writing project. This week I will also share the goal details with my style editor, who is my resource for the specifics of writing the manuscript.

If you'd like to know more about how to set your own smart goals, which I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend for any trader, you can check out this blog post:

https://blog.bestself.co/productivity/smart-goals-path-clearing/

Now that I have my S.M.A.R.T. goal laid out, I'm looking forward to getting back into the full swing of writing and researching!

Hope the rest of July goes great for you all and I will update you again on the book writing process on (or around) August 8th!

June 8, 2018

Hey folks,

The first “Gann Book 8th Update” went out on May 8th (scroll down to review). That's the day I signed with Wiley to publish a 2nd edition of my book The Trading Methodologies of W.D. Gann: A Guide To Building Your Technical Analysis Toolbox!

I was first introduced to Gann's work by my late father upon graduating from college. When I got the chance to write my book several years later, I took my experience, story, and analysis and shared it all from my point of view with the world.

Therefore, into Memorial Day weekend I asked for your advice as I began work on the 2nd edition manuscript. I REALLY appreciate those of you who provided feedback! I “retreated” Tue May 29th through Fri Jun 1st (no webinars or public-facing events). I just published the Skinny On The Mini ® each morning and then spent the rest of each day on research and writing.

So, here's my latest clarifications/updates:

  • One piece of advice was to not just take my existing courses and bundle them up into the book. Rest assured the book will contain material that is entirely separate and different from any of my online educational course content. Will I allude to my other analysis tools and approaches? Sure, very likely. But they won't be the focus.
  • The focus will be Gann's work as well as what I've derived/built upon Gann's work. This will be PRIMARILY on trading methods (as per the original title of the book). Many of the chart examples will be updated to reflect a greater variety of asset classes and time frames There will renaming of some of the content from the 1st edition to help improve your application of the techniques. And there will be NEW content pertaining to Gann's trading methods.
  • The format of the book should be a huge improvement from the first! While this greatly depends upon the layout team at Wiley, it's a good sign that my Wiley editor agrees that we need to keep charts and relevant commentary on the same/aligned pages as much as possible. This will help to increase the reader's ability to understand the content.
  • There will be some exploration of Gann's forecasting methods, but it won't necessarily go deep. I remain much more proficient at Gann's trading techniques than at his vast array of forecasting methods. Also, many of Gann's forecasting methods require additional materials – such as a physical Square of Nine calculator, paper wall charts, or specific software packages – to put his forecasting concepts into full action.
  • On the forecasting front, I WILL dive into astrology, specifically Vedic astrology, a bit more. And I'm working on moving through at least one example of an actual active market and how its natal chart can be studied, again on a kind of “101” intro level. I plan to collaborate with folks who know a lot more about this than I do. 😉 I've drafted about 25% of that chapter so far and I'm really excited about it!
  • Last but not least, I will do everything in my power to keep the material simple and easy to understand, as many of you requested in the survey. “We are not all math professors” one survey taker wrote, and I totally get that and will proceed accordingly.

That's all for now! I will likely put out another survey asking for your feedback in the July update.

Until then, wish you the best in your trading and I appreciate your interest and support as I continue to create this new piece of work!

May 8, 2018

Hey folks,

It's official! I'm partnering with Wiley to publish a 2nd edition of my book The Trading Methodologies of W.D. Gann: A Guide To Building Your Technical Analysis Toolbox!

As you likely know, I was first introduced to Gann's work by my late father upon graduating from college. When I got the chance to write my book into 2012, I took my experience and analysis techniques and shared it all from my point of view with the world.

Now that the book has been out on shelves for over 5 years, I've received lots of input from readers, lecture attendees, etc. about what a 2nd edition could potentially address down the road. That potential is now a reality, and it's time to revisit those great ideas!

So, I'm asking for your advice. Click here to give me your advice as I update content for the 2nd edition of my book. This is serious – I am a published author, yes, but that doesn't make me a mind reader. I want and need your advice as I update the book content and work with Wiley to release the 2nd edition. This will make it a win-win for all of us!

I will share updates with you on the book writing/publication processes on the 8th of every month. Just like I'm doing with this message today.

  • If you read my first book or have followed my work for some time, you'll know that “8th's” have a special meaning for me, and for Gann!
  • Each “Gann Book 8th Update” will not interfere with my Weekly Wednesdaycontent, FYI. So if the 8th of a month happens to be on a Wednesday, you'll still get the Weekly Wednesday content along with a separate book update email.

So again, I'd love your advice. I'm going to get cracking on the content update into June, so please submit your advice by May 28th (U.S. Memorial Day) for me to be able to consider it in the first round of edits. I'm “retreating” Tue May 29th through Fri Jun 1st (no webinars or public-facing events). I'll just publish the Skinny On The Mini ® each morning and then spend the rest of each day on research and writing.

Lastly, my support team is awesome, and growing, but still small. So please DO NOT send individual emails to me or my support team with your advice for the 2nd edition book, use the survey (as many times as you need to) to share your advice. If you have a particular attachment to share that supplements your advice, share the advice in the survey FIRST, THEN send a follow up email to support@himareddy.com with that attachment.

I am SO EXCITED for this project. It is bittersweet to not have my dad to ask for advice (he helped shape the first book SO much). But I'm sure he'd be very happy to see the ever-expanding HimaReddy.com family and your willingness to help make this book YOURS as much as it is mine!
